This DVD contains the actual, uncut 8mm home movies filmed by a crewmember.
USS Lake Champlain (CVA-39), 1954-55 Med Cruise. I was thrilled to get these films, as footage of the Lake Champlain as a CVA is very hard to find. But in the end, this is a great period home movie, with great vintage flight ops.
Great scenes of the flight deck. This film provides a great look a very cool period of Naval Aviation.
Great flight operations with Skyraiders, Cougars and Panthers. Includes a minor mishap: A Panther into the barrier.
Excellent gunnery practice, ending with the target in the water burning.
Good liberty scenes, but not too much. This DVD is mostly aboard the Lake Champlain.
And, of course, that big 39 on the bow and stern!!
About 22 minutes running time.
