This DVD contains the actual, uncut footage that was filmed by an A3D pilot who flew aboard USS Forrestal during the 1956 and 1963 Med Cruises. A fantastic look into Naval Aviation (NAVAIR) in the 1950s and 1960s. This DVD also contains other unique footage filmed by the same pilot -Very unique, never before seen footage
The DVD begins with a short sequence of SNJ trainers doing Field Landing Practice FLP) at Pensacola NAS
Next, we sit in the cockpit of an R5D making a landing on a VERY small island out in the middle of nowhere.
Great launch and recovery sequences from 1956, including the very first A3D carrier quals, which took place aboard Forrestal. The carrier quals were filmed from both the cockpit and carrier.
Great liberty sequences from Med Ports
A short sequence of A3D formation flying, from the cockpit. Also, an A3D making an emergency landing at an unknown air station. The label on the can reads "LCDR McPherson Emergency Landing, 1959. A lot of sparks when she touches down.
