This DVD contains VHS home movies and 16mm color footage from her 1883-84 IO Cruise
The VHS home movies were filmed as the Midway began her deployment in late 1983, and includes the original audio as the film was shot.
The 16mm footage was filmed in May 1984, as the Midway was ending her IO cruise and returning home.
The 30 minutes of the VHS home movies include leaving Yokosuka, and has footage of the Japanese protestors (Yankees go Home, etc.), with good footage of Japanese patrol craft shoving the protestor away from the Midway. Also good shots of the flight deck and island (lots of black smoke beltching from the stack!).
Very good UNREP and VERTREP footage.
Shots of NAS Cubi Point. No liberty scenes in town. Sorry!
The VHS footage ends with an airshow for the ships crew. Lots of fly-bys and bombs killing fish in the ocean!
All 30+ minutes of the 16mm film was either shot standing between the cats or from a SH-3 helicopter. No liberty sequences, UNREPS, etc. This is all Midway, all underway.
Very nice shots of aircraft launches filmed from the H-3 helicopter in starboard delta.
Great flight operations sequences, with an intimate view of the cat crews doing their thing. Also see other flight deck crews working, as well as squadron folks getting aircraft ready to launch.
The film ends with aerial views of the crew manning the rails as she returns home to Yokusuka.
A great look at a famous carrier conducting operations during the Cold War.
65 minutes running time.
