This DVD contains the actual, uncut 8mm home movies filmed by a crewman (believed to be a Chief Petty Officer) who sailed in USS Blandy.
The absolute highlight of this film is footage of the intercepts Blandy made during the Cuban Missile Crisis (Cuban Quarantine). While a very small amount of this film is blemished (looks like snow flakes), this is still extremely unique footage of a historic event.
Besides the Soviet container ships that were intercepted, this sequence begins with what appears to be a surfaced submarine. I believe this to be the Soviet submarine that the Blandy forced to surface.
-Unique, never before seen footage-
Great scenes of the ship underway.
Excellent UNREP footage, including alongside the USS Randolph (CVS-15) and the USS Essex (CVS-9). The Essex even launches a WF-1 Tracer while conducting the UNREP.
Lots of other ships in the battle group.
Some sort of a fashion show. Many good looking women modeling everything from one piece bathing suites to dresses.
A trip through the Suez Canal.
Also includes great liberty scenes from multiple ports, both in the Med and the Caribbean.
All around, just a real neat film of a destroyer making history during turbulent times.
About 68 minutes running time.
