This DVD contains the actual, uncut 8mm home movies filmed by a command pilot during a Peacemaker deployment to Guam in 1955. |
Very rare home movie footage of life in Guam during a deployment. Great scenes of peacemakers on the ground, landing and taking off. Also life on the base (everyone seems to own a scooter). |
Great scenes of Guam as well. |
This film is simply awesome in my opinion. The person who filmed this must have spent dozens upon dozens of hours editing this gem, in order to tell a story about being a B-36 pilot. For example, during the engines start procedures, we see the pilot reach for the 4 jet throttles in the overhead, and push them to full power. We then pan to see the jets. We then see the pilot push the 6 reciprocating engine throttles forward, and we then see the props. then we are outside, seeing views of a B-36 taxing, then back inside. Same with startup procedures, etc. Taxiing from the cockpit, cut to an outside view of a B-36, back in the cockpit. Fantastic flight footage is the real gem, of course. Formation flying, scenes inside the plane, etc. This is simply a great a great home movie of a great airplane! The simple fact is that this is one of the very best films in my archive. If any of my former Navy shipmates heard me say this about an Air Force film they would beat me up, but it can't be helped. This is a fantastically cool film!! |
